Module 12 — Theme 1: End Times

The Millennial Kingdom

Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.

The text states "a thousand years" six times in Revelation 20:2–7. The question is whether this is a literal 1,000-year period or a symbolic representation of a complete age.

Premillennialism
Christ returns BEFORE the millennium. He physically establishes and reigns over a literal 1,000-year kingdom on earth from Jerusalem. Satan is literally bound. Resurrected saints rule with Christ. The oldest view, held by most of the early church fathers.
Amillennialism
The "millennium" is not a future literal period — it is the current Church Age. Christ reigns NOW through His church. Satan is "bound" in the sense that he cannot prevent the gospel from going to all nations. Dominant view in Reformed/covenant theology.
Key texts: Rev 20 (symbolic reading); John 12:31; 2 Cor 4:4; Col 2:15
Postmillennialism
The Church will gradually Christianize the world through gospel preaching, resulting in a golden age of righteousness. Christ returns AFTER this millennium.

🙏 Reflection & Prayer
The Millennium is a picture of what the world was always meant to be — creation restored, justice reigning, the knowledge of God everywhere. How does that vision shape my longing for Christ's return?
Even with Satan bound and Christ physically present on the throne, people will still rebel at the end of the Millennium (Rev 20:7–9). What does this tell me about the human heart — and about why transformation must be spiritual, not just circumstantial?
Isaiah 66:23 says all humanity will worship before God from "one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another" in the Millennium. What does the continuity of these rhythms — Sabbath, new moons, seasons — tell me about how God designed time and worship?
