Module 2 — Theme 2: Biblical Calendar & Prophecy

Israel in Prophecy

More end-times prophecy centers on Israel than on any other nation. Understanding your theology of Israel will shape almost every other eschatological conviction you form.

The Central Question
Has God's covenant with Israel been transferred to the Church, or is it still active? Your answer will determine whether end-times prophecy about Israel is still future or was fulfilled spiritually in/through the Church.

Romans 11:25–27 (NASB 1995)
For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, "THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB." "THIS IS MY COVENANT WITH THEM, WHEN I TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS."
Dispensational View
The 1948 and 1967 events are literal, partial fulfillments of OT prophecy. Full fulfillment comes at the Second Coming when all Israel is saved and Christ reigns from Jerusalem.
Key texts: Ezek 36–37; Isa 11:11–12; Rom 11:25–27
Covenant / Replacement Theology View
The Church is the "new Israel" — the true seed of Abraham (Gal 3:29). OT promises to national Israel are fulfilled spiritually in the Church. The 1948 establishment has no prophetic significance.
Key texts: Gal 3:29; 6:16; Rom 2:28–29; Matt 21:43
Progressive Covenantalism View
Neither pure replacement nor strict dispensationalism. The Church fulfills many Abrahamic promises, but there remains a future for ethnic Israel as part of the one new man in Christ.
Key texts: Rom 11:11–15, 25–27; Eph 2:11–22
🙏 Reflection & Prayer
What do I actually believe about whether God's covenant with Israel is still active? Have I studied this, or inherited someone else's view?
Romans 11:25 speaks of a "mystery" — the partial hardening of Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles comes in. Does this change how I think about sharing the gospel with Jewish people?
How does the rebirth of Israel in 1948 affect my confidence in the reliability of unfulfilled prophecy?
